- The City of Anniston is embarking on a citywide effort to build trails, extend existing ones and create a more walkable, bike-able city, including a recently-awarded project to improve sidewalks and build trails in West Anniston.
- The Housing Authority is looking to redevelop Cooper Homes, a public housing community in the center of West Anniston. This effort will be the first in a longer-term initiative to update and improve public housing citywide and better integrate it into city neighborhoods.
- And, as many have already heard, Anniston City Schools is studying the conversion of Cobb Elementary School into a middle school.
Why does West Anniston need a plan? Haven't we gone through this all before? A lot of talk and not enough action...Yes, plans have been prepared for West Anniston before, but this partnership between the City, Housing Authority and school system is a pivotal moment for West Anniston. To put it simply, bringing these three agencies together around one plan focused on West Anniston is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We need the community's help in putting this plan together...to steer these investments and attract others.
What are the greatest needs in West Anniston? What is your vision for the future? How can the City and its public and private partners help residents and businesses prosper? How do we make positive changes last?
